How Mira works
Where your email lives, what Mira stores, and what its AI can and cannot do.
Mira is an email client. It shows the mail in your mailboxes and carries out what you ask, like sending, archiving or starring. Your email stays with your email provider.
Your email stays with your provider
Mira reads your mail from Google, Microsoft or your mail server each time you open it. Message bodies and attachments are not stored in Mira's database. On Pro, Smart inbox also keeps, encrypted, the sentence that asks you for something and the date of a trip or bill. To list your mail quickly, Mira keeps a short summary of each conversation: subject, senders and recipients, a short preview, dates, and whether it is read or starred.
Actions you take in Mira happen at your provider too. A message you archive in Mira is archived in Gmail, Outlook or on your mail server, and the other apps you use see the same change.
Mira's AI reads but never acts
Mira's AI can summarize a conversation, answer questions about your mail, and write text for you. It cannot send, delete, move or change any email: it has no way to, by design. Text it writes appears in your composer or in a chat, and you decide whether to use it and send it.
AI features run when you use them. Mira sends its AI provider only the emails a feature needs, such as the conversation you are reading or the emails it found for your question, never your whole mailbox. On Pro, Smart inbox also works in the background as mail arrives: it sends the AI each new sender with a few subjects to sort your inbox, the newest messages of recent conversations from people to find what needs you, and the subject and preview of new automatic emails to find the updates worth knowing. Mira's AI provider is not allowed to train models on your data.
Images load privately
Images in emails load through Mira's servers, so senders do not see your IP address or your device. A sender can still tell that you opened an email when its images load. To decide for each email, turn on Ask before showing images in a mailbox's settings. See Mailbox settings.
