Connect your email

Add Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook, Microsoft 365, iCloud, Yahoo, or any other mailbox with IMAP.

Connect every mailbox you use, on every plan. What you do in Mira, like starring or archiving, happens in the mailbox itself, so your other email apps show it too.

Before you start

  • A Mira account. See Quick start.
  • For a work account on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, your administrator may have to allow Mira first.
  • For iCloud and Yahoo, an app password instead of your normal one:
    • iCloud: create an app-specific password at account.apple.com, under Sign-In and Security.
    • Yahoo: create an app password in your Yahoo account's security settings.

Choose your provider

Open Settings, then Email, and select Connect email. Mira shows three choices: Google, Microsoft, and Other email.

Google

For Gmail and Google Workspace.

Choose Google

Select Google. Google opens and asks which account to use.

Allow access

Choose the account and allow the Gmail access Mira asks for. Mira needs it to show your mail and to carry out what you do, like sending, archiving and starring.

To connect another Gmail address, repeat the steps and choose the other account in Google's window.

Gmail with an app password

If Mira shows Email account where you would expect Google, connecting through Google is not available yet. You can still add Gmail with an app password, which Google makes for apps like Mira:

Turn on 2-Step Verification

Google only offers app passwords when 2-Step Verification is on for your Google account.

Create an app password

Go to myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, name it "Mira", and copy the 16-character password Google shows.

Add the mailbox in Mira

Select Email account, enter your Gmail address, paste the app password, and select Connect mailbox. Mira finds Gmail's servers by itself.

Through an app password, Gmail works like any other IMAP mailbox in Mira. Google Workspace administrators can turn app passwords off; then ask them to allow Mira instead.

Microsoft

For Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, and Microsoft 365.

Choose Microsoft

Select Microsoft. Microsoft's sign-in opens.

Allow access

Sign in and accept the permissions Mira asks for. Mira needs to read your mail and send email for you, so it can show your mailbox and carry out what you do in it.

Other email

For iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, your web host's email, and any other mailbox that offers IMAP and SMTP, the standard ways for email apps to read and send mail.

Choose Other email

Select Other email. If Mira shows Email account instead, select that.

Enter your address and password

Enter your Email address and Password, then select Connect mailbox. Mira finds the secure IMAP and SMTP servers for most providers by itself, and only then uses your password to sign in.

Enter the servers yourself

If Mira cannot find your servers, select Manual setup and fill in what your provider lists for email apps:

SectionFieldsUsually
Incoming mail (IMAP)Host, Port, Security, UsernamePort 993 with TLS
Outgoing mail (SMTP)Host, Port, Security, UsernamePort 587 with STARTTLS

Then select Connect mailbox. Mira checks both servers before it saves the mailbox.

Check that it worked

The mailbox appears in the mailbox switcher at the top of the sidebar, and its inbox shows your latest mail. Mira starts finding your meetings, bills, and bookings in it for the Overview. To set the name people see when you send from it, open its mailbox settings.

If Mira says it can't connect, see Mailbox problems.
