# Summarize a conversation

Get the point of a long conversation, and what to do next, in a few lines.

Mira can summarize the conversation you are reading: who said what, what was decided, and what is still open.

## Steps

### Open a conversation

Select it in your inbox or any other folder.

### Summarize it

Select **Summarize this conversation** above the messages. Mira writes the summary as it reads.

When something needs you, like a question to answer or a deadline, the summary ends with what to do next.

## After the summary

- **Draft a reply** opens a reply with Mira's draft in it. See [Write with Mira](https://mirahq-stg.app/docs/ai/write-with-mira).
- **Ask a follow-up** lets you ask about the conversation. See [Ask about a conversation](https://mirahq-stg.app/docs/ai/ask-about-a-conversation).
- **Open in chat** continues in Ask Mira, with the conversation open beside the chat.

Select **Summarize again** for a new summary, for example after a new reply arrives, or **Hide summary** to close it.

## What it uses

Mira sends only this conversation to its AI provider, and only when you select **Summarize this conversation**. A summary of a typical conversation uses about one AI credit. See [Plans and AI credits](https://mirahq-stg.app/docs/account/plans-and-credits).
